Participation.
We are not encouraging public attendance at this working
session, as it may be counter productive. It was extremely helpful at
the budget hearing, legislators heard support loud and clear. Thursday
the subcommittee needs to work through the issues involved in budget
restorations in a very limited time. The meeting will be less than
three hours and includes two other departments, with us at the end.
Time will be precious. A large public presence and public testimony
will detract from that, not help. Of course if you have a board member
who wants to attend, we certainly wouldn't object. But we would ask
anyone who does decide to come to refrain from taking any of the
hearing time with public testimony. It will be broadcast on the
internet so anyone interested should be able to tune in. Having said
that, reiterating support for restoring budgets is helpful and email or
phone contact before Thursday's hearing may be very helpful. Thank all
of you, the price of what's at stake is indeed too high ... but it
will be up to us to tell that story.
